"With the same regular season record as Russell the year before."
No doubt. We were lucky in 2007 and 2006 might have won a 4 team playoff. But The really weird thing is that the 2006 Russell-led team frequently failed to score any points. Russell was incredibly talented and had a great year, AND he had more talent at WR than Flynn did the next year, but the 2007 team always scored plenty (27 and 28 in regulation in their losses compared to the single digits and low teens in the 2006 losses). Until Burrow, JR's 2006 season was the best I ever saw at LSU. But for some reason, Flynn's 2007 Tigers were more consistent on offense (change in OC's? better running game, albeit with the same RB's as I recall?).
Finally, I cannot agree that JD this year surpassed Russell in 2006. Forget stats, because times and schemes change, but Russell won the Manning Award for being the nation's best QB. JD is not going to be in that discussion.
