I’m enjoying the heck out of listening to Fire University Podcast. I have 218 acres and plan to burn about 40 acres per year on a 4 yr rotation, plus burn the other 50 or so acres on an every other year basis. The property i purchased was clear cut almost 5 years ago. I did a lot of habitat work this year and have had a few quail and even a few woodcock show up. I start with the fire this year and look forward to the results.
I’ve gone on a few of the pen bird hunts with my dad and enjoyed it. Dad is 73 and in good shape. I hope to hunt quail with him on my place before his days are over. He hunted quail with his Dad when he was young, so it’s still a passion for he and my uncles. Paw paw was a WW2 and Korean War vet and quail hunting was a joy of his!
Experts tell me I can’t do it on 218 acres, but I like a challenge.
