I chose IoTaWatt and I like it. I haven't tried any others to know how they compare. I chose it because it is an open platform that does not rely on any cloud services. It doesn't do anything fancy like machine learning your appliances or anything like that, so if you want that you have to wire it up yourself. What it does do is monitor your power consumption in real time (on up to 14 circuits individually) and gives you local access to that raw data. You can pipe that data to home assistant or one or more of several cloud based database services under your control. How deep you want to go is up to you.

Using the Emporia modules here, have one in each panel. Dead simple to set up and does a good job, right now they are using cloud based storage, but need to take the time to integrate it into my Home Assistant.

Interesting. Thanks and I'll look into it. The only other one I was reading about was Sense Flex.
