If you are raising a family, it's probably top 3 in the state. I've been in Lafayette for the past 10 years. Grew up in Nola, went to LSU and spent 3 years after college in BR. I loved both Nola and BR when I lived there, but I would never move back to those cities in their current state. Like other posters mentioned, Lafayette doesn't offer as many choices for dining or activities like Nola, but it's not a deal breaker. There's enough to keep my family of 6 occupied, though.

Lafayette people say…Lafayette is great. It’s got some good restaurants, smaller town feel. but infrastructure is not that great & traffic sucks. I’m always reminded of this when I49 ends in the ghetto and it takes way longer than it should to get the hell out of the city.
