I get what you are saying, and the downvotes are a result of poor wording. When my MiL died recently, some in my family sent gift cards to local restaurants so we could order food when we needed to. They did so for this very reason; too much food can be sent at one which leads to waste.
None of this was asked for from us nor expected; it just arrived with a text from those who sent it. It is meant to help get through the next several days, because cooking is the last thing you have time for.
I don't think you are as selfish and greedy as you OP sounds, so I am attempting to offer a little clarity for you.
You have my prayers for your loss. I lost my dad 10 years ago, and I still have moments of terrible sadness. The hurt fades to the background in time, but it never truly goes away.
