Looking at your choices I would push him towards one of the Service Academies, 2) ROTC
I would not encourage him to join straight out of HS and go enlisted if he has other options. Even on the enlisted side college degrees are starting to be important in promotion.
Again if the military is something he wants to do and he has an opportunity to go to a Service Academy do not hesitate take it.

As someone who would never have lasted even three days in the military - help me to understand this…. I thought that if one first had a college degree, then they would join as an officer ? Are you saying that some people get college degrees and then enlist ? Ive seen An Officer and a Gentleman a few times but this doesn’t compute to me .
