I feel that the old military competition aspect between the two cadet corps from those times is one of the reasons that t4&8 remains a heated rival for many of the fans to this day.

I would presume this is most definitely the case. I remember Dad's tales about the rivalry between the A&M and LSU cadet corps. LSU wore the Blue Star for top unit in the district, and A&M had the silver spurs for their boots to signify they had the top cavalry unit in the division. A&M cadets would try to steal the blue stars from the LSU cadets, and LSU's cadets would endeavor to collect a few silver spurs from visiting Aggie cadets.

Hearing Dad's old tales of that rivalry is probably the root of my appreciation of having A&M in the SEC so we have the opportunity to play them every year.

I always thought it was pretty neat that when I began my freshman year at LSU in 1986, our first football opponent was A&M. The Tigers whipped them soundly that night.

Thanks much for the response. I enjoy the tales and memories of my senior Tiger brethren.
