Recovering drunk here.
It never was right for me. I know it’s absolutely saved lives and it works for a lot of people. I’m just not one of them. It had a cultish feel that I never could get comfortable with.
Ultimately I just made up my mind I was done but did take one of their popular slogans to heart - one day at a time.

Similar experience here.

After I got away from booze for a few months, I realized I never thought about it, even if I have people drinking around me. So I stopped going to meetings. That was about 7 years ago.
