pearl jam- they are fine but if prime pearl jam and prime Alice in Chains are playing at the same time at music festival, i am going to the AIC stage

The music press grouped AiC and Pearl Jam together out of laziness and geographical proximity. They're nothing alike.
PJ has a wonderful catalog, and is a great band in its own right. But I don't see how they are realistically comparable
