you have to have hydrocarbons for alot of things, sure.
your article itself states oil companies are completely content pocketing profits and not reinvesting them.
the only industries that do that are industries with no expanding future.
A day is coming where there is diesel for towing and necessary byproducts and commuter cars are electric.

This isn't viable for numerous reasons. At least not in the next 20 years if not never. Electric isn't the answer.
What fuels the plants?
What do you do with old batteries that can't be recycled?
What is going to drive the market to make electric recharging stations?
