There is nothing in the rule book about “complete” possession. That’s just made up.
Compare to the Kellen Mond play in 2018. Ball on ground. Player grabs ball with knee on ground (with one hand in that case). Play is over.
In this case, 2 hands on ball with leg down. Play over. Having a guy out of bounds knock the ball loose AFTER that changes nothing. That’s why the ref on the spot immediately pointed to indicate LSU ball. This was almost instantaneous. He saw Brooks grab the ball.
And the replay official changes the call on the field. Terrible call. You have to go with the call on the field.
