The garmin alpha system is the whooping shite for this.

I also have the Garmin alpha, hands down it will tell you where your dog is. And you can shock, tone, vibrate from up to 9 miles away. The battery life is not great, you will need to charge it every night if you plan to use it as an all day unit.
