I was a older teen lying in be done night and stumbled upon the original Thing from Another World (1951), and absolutely loved it.

It was nothing like the 1982 movie (which is great in its own right), but I just remember thinking it was way too good for a movie that old.

In terms of physical media, I did a ton of research before renting so I wasn't ever that shocked, but the one exception was this gem:



Randomly my friend came over to my house (never really happened unless I was driving his drunk arse home) and my brother watched it with us (also rare in those days because of personal issues causing conflict between us).

Put that shite on and it was like 90-100 minutes of gut laughing. Had no idea that movie was going to be as great as it is.
