Violence is way down compared to the 70s 80s and 90s. It's risen again since the pandemic, but it was way down over the course of the last 40 to 50 years. It just doesn't seem like it because of the internet and social media. We actually see all of the violence now because most of it's documented.
There used to be years when New Orleans would routinely eclipse or approach 400 murders and 6000 armed robberies.
Now when there is 200 murders in New Orleans it's like a decade long record etc.
Violence is down, the population is docile for the most part so now the government does what they want with little resistance.
That's why they tried to make a big deal over the capitol protest. Even though there was no violence they made it seem like 911 terror attack.
