Aren’t there other inundation legends from around the same time in several middle eastern/central Asian cultures besides the ancient Hebrews? Isn’t the theory that “the flood” was a relatively sudden rise in the level of the Black Sea around which there were numerous ancient cultures? The connection between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea opened up and caused the flood. There have been studies which have found ancient remains on what used to be the former shoreline which are now off the coast and a hundred feet below the surface.
There are flood stories from many ancient cultures across the world. Were it limited only to the Med I don't think we would see such stories deep into Indonesia nor from tribes in the Americas.
