This argument makes little sense to me. Sure you have a portal, but what kind of athletes are entering these portals? They're 2nd teir from what ever team they're on 2nd string guys looking for more playing time, or they're coming from a 2/3 tier conference. Sure they find playing time elsewhere, but those players are STILL second teir to the ones they were playing behind, and when you match them up the result is still the same.

One thing the portal does is allows coaches to take kids that have a year or more in a collegiate program vs taking an 18 year old that has not had the benefit of a collegiate strength and conditioning program. There is still some level of alignment that has to happen. They need to learn our scheme, where they fit within our group of kids, etc. There's still aspects of a rebuild, it just shortens the time frame from 3 years to something much quicker.
