I'm not really sure, but I have heard some or all of it is derived from the number of followers a given player has across all social media platforms

Probably based on the number of followers across social media. Followers/interactions.

Which isn't that important when it comes to buying players.

I'm sure a business will care how many people may see their product on a social media post if a player is signed to an NIL deal with their company.

NIL is just advertising.

You think Gordon really gave a shite how many followers Boutte had when they had to give him money to hold off Bama's pay day? No, he was good(at one point) so they had to pay to keep him.

Even with On3's madeup valuations the QBs always have higher. It's not because QBs have more followers, they just cost more.

Great way to inflate the ego and insecurity in the age of 'Likes' culture

Explain to me why Gordon McKernan would have an NIL deal with Boutte if it wasn't about advertising his law firm. Do people just giveaway money now? Do you really think businesses are signing NIL deals for fun?

QBs are the most visible and marketable position. That's why they have higher NIL valuations.

How do you think internet ads work? It's about eyeballs, clicks, likes, etc.

It's not a mystery, there's metrics and formulas involved and a business isn't going to give out money unless they get something in return.

I’m glad you seem to know about all of this despite using vague explanations. Fwiw, I work for one of the biggest global sales companies in the world and oversee a marketing team that spends more in one metro than the top 100 on3 recruits NiL values. When I spoke with my team(who by the way all have done this for a living for a while) about the valuations they could not make any sense of it. That’s why I asked. Best they came up with is that this is a new process and some of the money spend is just to pay recruits to come to a spot and the other half is pure guessing.

What Gordon does makes sense. He uses the players' names, images, and likenesses to promote his law firm. That's the spirit of NIL.

What I don't understand is when the players get their deals from groups of boosters who form companies with no real business purpose.

Some boosters simply get an ego rush to support and know the players....been going on for decades.
