One engineering group I worked for went through a phase where the different groups would hire a new executive assistant...each one successively hotter. One day the president's wife and her "assistant" walked through the building and by the afternoon there was a memo issued (yes, predates emails) saying all future admin hires had to be approved. A week later, there were "layoffs". We then saw the effects on new hires being above 160 and min age was 50.
