A 12 team playoff allows teams who sputter at first, but finish significantly strong suddenly have to get consideration to get into the field of 12. I do like that aspect of a playoff and suggest that might be the best thing about it getting a broader base excited towards the end, like seen with March Madness.

so we just excuse the sputtering? Why can we just waive those away but not sputtering in november? Who determines that september games don't matter but October ones do?
