1. That gun was dumped haphazardly and not probably far away and it will give you an initial direction of travel, which is already cut in half due to the train.
2. Phone calls or texts were made shortly after dumping that gun.
I'll also not that if the perp shot from the side of the vehicle, he likely did not cross over the vehicle to run. He would have put the car to his back and took off. That leaves 1 90 degree cone due to the train and wanting to run away from the scene, directly.
10 shots there's plenty of residue. Check all garbage in the direction of travel, even better if you can get a range using cell phone connections, find clothes thrown away with powder residue. Then use every camera in the neighborhood to get pic of wearing those clothes earlier in the day. Don't forget hats (residue under the bill + sweat) and shoes (glass embedded in tread).
