First, a little insight I got from J.Daniels after the 2005 season...
That's paraphrasing, but you get the idea. Just a reminder, he played 2 years under Saban, and 2 years under Miles.
Saban is a Defense minded coach whose specialty is the secondary. I don't think anybody would dispute the fact that we had some well-coached DB's under Saban, along with a well thought-out scheme from week to week for the most part. I don't dislike our Co-coordinators, but I don't think they are getting the most out of our talent level.
The good news is that Saban is not the only good Defensive mind in the country. More good news is that Les Miles can continue to be a great Head Coach if he recognizes that he needs to upgrade the Defensive coaching staff. If he does that, it would not take long for LSU to dominate with our talent level. Normally, I would expect a drop-off with a coordinator change, but these guys were supposed to bring some continuity. Funny enough, if you look honestly at our Defensive stats beginning last year, they unfortunately have.

What we are missing is PRESSURE!
Our safeties and corners are going to continue to look pitiful if we give QB's 10 seconds to throw.
Everybody talks about Saban's work with DB's. He takes good athletes and teaches them technique, but it all comes down to getting the QB to throw the ball before he wants to.
The one thing I miss about Saban is that on defense there was usually pressure coming, but he disguised it so that you didn't know who was coming. There might be 7 guys near the line and 5 were coming, but you never knew which 5.
Right now we are playing soft base defense and getting picked apart. Our blitzes are mis-timed and telegraphed.
We've got plenty of talent on defense, but they are not being coached very well right now.

When we decide to blitz, this is the case. Stafford would notice the blitz, where it was coming and target the open receiver before anyone touched him. LSU defense used to show one thing and when the QB read it, they would bring a different blitz. It was very good disguise. At this point, our Co-D's should just send the play into the offensive huddle to save time.

Bad tackling, bad angles, bad at getting off blocks, no contain, don't stay at home, apparently don't know or don't understand the coverage schemes.
Other than that, the defense is top notch.

Jack Daniels has a way with altering perception.
Leadership. Player personnel issues, out of place, confused, etc. All traceable back to the coaching.

So he's saying that Pelini was worthless?

Does anyone think that maybe it the offense and a QB throwing to the other team?

That gave the defense more time to rest, actually.

Pretty much what he was saying... Take it for what it's worth... He was a strong safety, and probably got a-lot of attention from Saban. No doubt there has been a decline in our ability to keep other teams out of the end zone though...
