Is being a conductor really that awful? UP says they can make nearly $90k a year driving a train and entry level is pretty close to what I make working in a plant right now, and I have no upward trajectory in my current role.

You'll be away from home 75 percent of your life for the first ~10 years. If missing kids birthdays, games, holidays, etc. doesn't matter to you then it's a pretty good gig.
