I’m a TGBFTL member from the late 80’s.

I hate to say it but the current band has really declined. It’s been a gradual slide for a number of years. I attribute it to not having a career Band director anymore. They go through directors so fast I can’t even keep up with it anymore.

Their sound, music play list, drill, all of it just seems like it has really declined. The fans don’t help because of how much traditional music they’ve gotten banned.

People complained that there were too many Latin shows under Frank Wickes and Linda Moorehouse, but the band was sharp back then and very loud.

No offense to the current director Dr. Jones, but LSU should've done a nationwide search for a new director when Roy King got fired. The first guy on the list should've been Auburn's band director. He's got LSU ties and he's made their band one of the best in the SEC. Tiger Band looks and sounds small compared to most other opposing bands. That said, I have to give them kudos for 2019. I don't know if they managed to get some of Joe Burrow's swagger or what, but they absolutely blew both the OU and Clemson bands out of the building during the playoffs.
