Ok, as someone with a lot of international experience (exports) there’s more than one side to that coin. When you go protectionist, other countries do too. Exports have a multiplicative effect on dollars brought in through sales. We want them to buy our finished goods….badly. Encouraging other countries to put tariffs on our goods is bad. I’ll put one exception to that, and it’s China. We do need to rein in our dependence on their finished goods. Raw materials….no tariffs on imports….ever IMO. We have far too much dependence on finished goods coming from there.
