Coaching or Talent

Asking for unbiased comments. What is the prob this season, coaching or talent. It's clear the co-DC doesn't work. But maybe the talent is over-rated too. I know what the recruiting rankings say, but those are only important to fans. Coaches recruits players for their system.
On paper, here in Dallas, the Cowboys have the best talent in the league, but they are playing like crap. Are they really as good as advertised, or being coached poorly? Maybe, just maybe we just don't have the roster quality we had in the recent past.

could be team chemistry, lack of leadership

I think it's mostly coaching, and beyond that inexperience. The talent's fine. It just needs to be developed.

The coaching and talent are fine everywhere except on defense. On defense, our players are bad and our coaches are worse.

Well, when you have a young quarterback that did not get one snap all season long last year due to the fact that Perrilloux was the future it can hurt us as a team. I'm sure if Miles could have predicted the future that either Hatch or Lee would have gotten more significant snaps. The defensive secondary is very young and gives up big plays. However, when your offense goes 3 and out or turns over the ball because of an unexperienced quarterback this puts the defense in an awkward situation. I think the team and the coaches are at fault and they just need to work together to limit the mistakes and get better.

I was just thinking about the same thing. I don't know if it was worse to lose Dorsey and Chevis Jackson or to lose Pelini. Obviously, losing all of them was a disaster.

Here is my take on our current situation:
I do not think that we have a lack of talent. Obviously inexperience @ QB is our biggest problem on offense. I truly expected a 9-3 season this year & it certainly looks like we will be somewhere close to that by the end of the season. Lee is a very talented athelete! There is no doubt about that. He is just going through thr growing pains of the college game & in particular, the SEC. When he threw that pick 6 on the 1st play from scrimage yesterday, I think everyone in the country knew where he was throwing that ball. He stared down the reciever from the moment the ball was snapped, followed him on thr route & the defender simply read the play by looking @ his eyes. This is just something that almost all rookie QB's do. I am interested to see if Russell Sheppard will make the same types of errors.
As far as the defense is concerned, I am not a fan of the co-defensive coordinators. This has rarely if ever had much success in college football. The loss of a mastermind like Bo Pelini, obviously hurt us. Not to mention the allstar defensive players we lost to the draft. Dorsey, Jackson, Steltz, ect. were experienced & also had the intensity to get the team pumped up when they made big plays. I don't feel like there is a lack of talent on the defense either, but as stated in an earlier post, it is there but it needs to be developed. This dual coordinator BS ain't gonna cut it. I certainly hope that this issue is addressed before next season. I'd love to see Muschamp back. There is definately a lack of leadership on this team. I'm not in the locker room but I can just about imagine that there is alot of finger pointing going on.
We cannot blame this mess on RP. Although he is a freaking douche nozzle in my opinion, he did not throw 3 picks to Georgia yesterday! Les did what he had to do & I give him props for doing it.
The bottom line is that 9-3 or 10-2 is not a bad season by most standards. Well the bar was raised last year when we won it all & now we expect a SEC chanpionship & a BCS bowl every year. We have a rookie QB! Growing pains are to be expected. We just as well hire the Olsen twins to run the defense, maybe that would get the defense inspired. We need a new guy to revamp our defense, that is for sure. Our current sceme is not working & we have the talent & depth to make a vicious defense! But talented & gifted athletes are only as good as their coaches. They must be developed!
If anyone on the team is reading this please listen carefully to the following:
Guys, we as fans are behind you 110%. Someone please drop their nuts & go apeshit crazy in the locker room & take control of this team. Smash a few helmets, dent some lockers, break some shite. Just cut loose. Do a 3rd degree redneck up in there & be a freaking leader. Don't worry about all the shite you break, we give plenty of money to TAF, they can buy you new stuff!

Easy answer. We're now down to a handful of Saban's boys and we're getting out coached

I would break the bank to get Muschamp back, but he is probably ready for a head coaching job at this point.

Muschamp...his 2007 Auburn "Defensive unit" gave up 488 yards to LSU last year.

UNDISIPLINED!
All the big plays giving up by the defense and the bad turnovers on offense are because Miles teams are undisiplined.
I know I know, but I watched Bama last night and they sure looked like the old LSU teams. No talking trash after making a tackle just business. I think that is the main difference between Saban and Miles.

LSU does not have studs at DT like in the past, Young QB, and a piss poor secondary. You are lot like us on D and that is when you don't get a pass rush you get your arse hammered becuase of poor secondary play. Combination I guess of coaching and talent in some key areas.

The offense is fine. The D is horrible compared to what we've seen the past 6 years. If the D could keep teams under 30 points, I say we come out with a win. JL needs to cut the ints down to 1 a game though. If he throws 2 or 3 we don't win.

I'm fine with Les's decision on RP. I would rather lose 3 or 4 than have him still on the team. We also have to remember that Les has kicked several players off the team in the past 2 or 3 years. there could be an impact there also. Losing 2 or 3 great players on defense plus Pelini and Flynn/RP on offense. It might just be a little to much to overcome. I say we shoot for the Cotton Bowl and try to enjoy ourselves. We as fans need a break. I'm flat worn out after sitting on the edge every week for the past 8 years hanging too tightly to the thought of winning an NC or the SEC CS. Let's take a break, get some rest and come back strong next year. Jes people - we have 2 crystal balls.
Smell the roses for a bit.

To quote that great American, Bum Phillips:
How do you win? By getting average players to play good and good players to play great. That's how you win.
