The other posters have properly identified it for you and provided you with 2 good treatment options.
I just want to add lespedeza is not the same weed you identified your quote above - that would be lawn burweed, which is a winter weed, and the thorny spined seeds or “burs” or “stickers” appear in spring. If you want minimize it’s occurrence use a pre-emergent herbicide in late fall/early winter, and also actively look for the seedling plants in Jan/Feb that look like small parsley plants and spray them at that time with a post-emergent herbicide before they mature and develop the “stickers”.

Definitely use a pre-emerge for the burweed. My old man nuked his yard to get rid of that stuff, but didn't use a pre-emerge. It didn't take long for him to have a nice green carpet of burweed.
