Have your AC guy write it up as damage due to power surge. Submit his written statement to your insurance company.

Why would he do that? In attempt to get homeowners to subrogate?
I wouldn’t risk it, not with insurers already rating people up and dropping insureds in La. left and right.
His best bet is to follow the aforementioned advice: pics, well documented events, and contact attorney.
