The largest single stockholder in Halliburton was LBJ's wife, Lady Bird. That was as a result of Halliburton buying Brown and Root many decades ago. LBJ stayed at the Lamar Hotel in Houston almost as much as in DC. Brown and Root occupied several floors there. An uncle, who owned a drilling mud company, always stayed in the Lamar during weekly biz trips to Houston and saw LBJ there often.
