In your world, both owe $1,000?

Yes, in my non socialist world, both owe $1000.

If the husband doesn't like that, he should buy a house he can afford.

ETA: I am also of the mind that all income in a marriage belongs to both couples, so there's that. Regardless if it sits in separate accounts.

I have a savings and checking account with my main bank that my credit cards are with. I have a high yield savings account and a savings account with another bank that I have a banker with.

I ain't moving all that shite around when I get married. I have nothing to hide, it'd just be a huge pain in the arse

If you believe this, then both would not owe the same amount. It would be weighted, based on income. It's a marriage, not a socialist utopia. Different set of rules entirely.
