I just figured having hunters go after them in a concerted effort would seriously deplete the numbers

The irony of it is that this has happened with other species unintentionally (ducks, deer, turkeys), but would likely never work against hogs because of how differently those species breed.

It sounds like a great idea, but the same reason bounties haven't worked on nutria is the same reason it won't work on hogs--they just breed to damn much. Even with a bunch of people in the woods going after them, it likely wouldn't be enough to get the population under control. But, I could be wrong.

I can't say with certainty that a bounty would result in people purposely keeping them around, but people move the damn things around to sell hunts, so it's plausible that people would purposely leave hogs around just to let them reproduce and keep the bounties going.

Now that you mention it, I have heard about people moving hogs around to sell hunts.
Friend of mine paid for a hunt in Texas, was told the place was crawling with hogs spent first two days without seeing a hog, hog track, or any other sign. After complaining to the hunt seller, I believe he led them to an enclosure with a bunch of newly shipped in hogs, all very skinny, and was told they could shoot some of those. I believe they declined.

I am a little fuzzy on these details, I will check and report back.
