IMO the Republican Party has moved to occupy the place formally held by my father's Democrat Party. I knew that was the case when I heard the Bush Repubicans peddling this "Compassionate Conservatism" malarkey. I recall thinking I'd better hold on to my wallet cause GWB et al is coming after it.

Yep. Most Republicans now would match or be left of JFK on most issues.
