Okay, then I guess I don't really agree. The reason the Turtle caucus rules the roost is because he has the republican establishment behind him. It hasn't mattered how many conservatives we have sent to Washington in the last 30 years, because if they want to sit on the right committee, or be a committee chairman, or achieve any of their agenda at all, they play ball with the establishment. Otherwise they languish away doing absolutely nothing, achieving nothing for the conservative cause, and lose their seat to an establishment candidate or democrat.

While elected conservatives converting to republicans absolutely conveys that these people didn't have strong principles to begin with, I don't think we can overestimate the amount of pressure that the establishment can bring to bear on these people to convert them.
