You're basically opening a tab like you would at a bar.
It is unfortunate that it has come to that for this restaurant, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

A bar tab situation is different. If they want to make the encounter a counter service restaurant then that’s cool, I’ll pay when I order but if you seat me and need my ID as collateral then I just don’t think that’s the place I’d enjoy dining at for a meal
