re: Do you like the non-assigned seats on Southwest?

Last time I flew American 4-5 years ago we boarded just like Southwest only American told me which group to line up with. I walked past several seats I would have chosen but couldn’t because they had assigned me a seat. I fly Southwest except for international trips. If I don’t get a good boarding number I will buy the early boarding. I usually do that on the return because I am not setting an alarm to remind me to check in.
