The very reason you mentioned TO take a QB every year is precisely why it’s not really necessary to take one every year. QBs in the portal will be a dime a dozen.

That’s true and I see where I contradicted myself
I was thinking of Collins in BR. Even with the portal you take him or a similar QB every year you can.

Problem with relying on the portal is that some QB's are "system" QB's, whose skills are highly developed and effective but only within a certain system.
And the inverse is true:
Some systems are so developed in a particular school that it may take a couple of years to understand all the reads and assignments.
This makes the portal a less less reliable than recruiting QBs whose physical talents fit your system and grooming them to fit in it.
