Have you ever been to that area of France? On a clear day with the right conditions you can see Mt. Cinto, which is around 8900 ft high, especially because the coast of the Cote d'Azur itself has varying levels of elevation above sea level the further away from the cost.
Someone please correct my napkin math but if the temperature is above freezing and the pressure is 1 atm or 1000 mb, you should be able to see peaks above 5000 ft or so with atmospheric refraction.

Yeah I went there in 2013 on my honeymoon. Docked in Villefranche. Had some frugs del mar risotto. The produce markets, the vineyards on the mountainside. Avenue Etas-Unis. Beautiful place. The nude fatties on the concrete beach not so much.
