I'd like to know the average velocity those pitchers threw in the 50s/60s.
I watched that 1960 walkoff and it looks like that pitcher was throwing meatballs for the Yankees.
It honestly looked like a 55 mph slider.

You mean pitchers like Koufax, Drysdale, Gibson, Seaver?
Those older guys could bring it. Plus they were artists AND the catchers were allowed to scuff the ball.
It's a mistake to discount the quality of hurlers of the 50s and 60s.

Well, it was said that Ralph Terry HAD BEEN "warming up" for a hour before he came in and coughed up that meatball to Maz.
