What are the odds that Morton is back next year? He has a team option for 20 million with no buy out and has been locked in for the past month or so.
Too early to tell, I’d imagine. Lot of things to keep an eye on: can Soroka come back and show enough at the end of the year to feel confident he can be back in the full-time rotation next year? Does Ian turn it around this year? Does Wright keep it going? Are these 1-half aberrations or do they last all year? How does Strider handle the 2nd half stress? Wtf happened to Ynoa? He was our #1 for a minute last year. Does DeGrom opt out, and do we actually make a play for him?
I think if AA gets the combination of answers he’s looking for, we won’t be bringing Charlie back. At least not at $20 million. There’s too high of a chance he falls off a cliff and gives you nothing or we just have enough other guys they trust to fill the rotation and can better use that $20 million elsewhere (like re-signing Dansby, extending Fried or Riley, etc…). You’d love to always have a veteran starter like Charlie in the rotation, but it’s just too big of an unnecessary risk at that price imo (assuming those questions get answered sufficiently).
