Who else thinks this penalty should be eliminated? Its football; you're going to get hurt at some point during the season and just because you can put a catchy name to the type of tackle shouldn't make it a 15 yard penalty.

Like the Roy Williams Rule?

what the tackle can do to someone's knees or ankles should make it illegal
Posted on 10/20/08 at 8:42 am to Stingray
I always called it a state trooper tackle...

I think it is a good rule. The Facemask and Coller both act like HANDLES for a defender to grab. It is an unfair advantage. Tackling is a skill, and they should not receive the benefit of having that advantage. These two handles on the uniform also pose a safety threat to the players.

You know, it is legal to dive at someone's knee with your helmet to make a tackle. That could destroy someone's knee too. Just running backwards can destroy someone's knee.

The game is becoming pretty difficult for defensive players

Are you serious? What any tackle can do to anyone's legs... If the possibility of getting hurt makes it illegal, the entire sport should jsut be stopped.

I don't have a problem with the penalty...

So if a QB is running in the open field you can't dive at them and hit their legs? BS.

Thus the use of PADS.Pads are their to PROTECT. A Horse Collar tackle actually uses those pads to potentially injure.

It's happened one time this year, on OUR guy. Rantards now think it's a bad rule. Unbelieveable

Any tackling that involves the helmet neck should be illegal. The tackle on Dickson in the endzone should be illegal. Tackle the legs not eh head.

quote:frick you dude i've been against this rule since the start. What about slinging someone down by their jersey? Part of the uniform, check. Used as a handle, check. Causes injury, check. "Slingshot Tackles" are a menace to the sport and should be a personal foul.

If someone is going to score, you do what you have to in order to prevent. 15 yards beats 6 points any day of the week
