I’ll take Millazo batting 4x a game over a poor defensive catcher who will have to receive 130 pitches a game. The catcher can cost us more runs than a decent hitting catcher will produce. Alex’s defensive WAR will be much higher than any other catchers offensive WAR over his.

Milazzo was so bad offensively CPM was making him bunt with 1 out in regional games. You say offense doesn’t matter for a catcher, but it seems like the moment finds those guys and you end up having them come up in situations that they need to hit in constantly. If Milazzo was to return back to a .135 hitter like he was 2 years ago, I would much prefer him being a defensive replacement late in games with the better offensive catcher playing early.
