We need to be looking at the entire top 5-10 prospects.

We obviously keep it if top two. If lower, we need to see if there is a talent we see a lot in or if we think we can get better assets by flipping the pick.

its going to be no worse than 8 and more likely top 5.
if you are gm and you can't see the talent quit now before another #4 for the novice athlete who couldn't start in college and the speedy teeny Pg.

the memphis grizzlies and gsw manage to choose actual basketball players deep in the draft. is it luck?

all. don't limit to 10.
the memphis pick 2 years ago @1.30 Santiago Aldama was on the Spanish euro u19 champ team.
the issue was whether he would play in Spain another year or try nba at age 19. he showed up. had a couple nice games. 2 injuries.
he's starting pf in year2 because Jj jr is out for now.
a late memphis pick the year before aldama was Bane @1.30. they paid boston 2 2nds.

it helps to get a high pick.
it helps more to know basketball. 4th for hayes and kira. don't think that is ok. it was both weak (I don't see anyone worth 4th money), cowardly (I can't say I bet on this guy at 4) and gamble (hayes was never even a starter at texas).

Flipping this pick would be dumb. Look how well that worked out in the Zion draft... The talent at the top is just so much better than what you get mid round in the NBA. Sure you can get lucky or unlucky at any position but you get many more hits at the top.

After Wemby and Scoot there are several highly regarded guards in the top 10. I would rather upgrade JV with someone on the rookie scale but getting CJ's heir apparent is not a bad option. I believe we are getting another top pick in 24 or 25 so we have another shot at an athletic big.

Don't forget we are also adding a first round talent with EJ next year. He may not get to play but he should know the plays and terminology well being around the team all year.
