She just used her Mom's Maiden name to sound more Japanese to land huge ad/apperal deals with Asian and Japanese companies utterly desparate to fawn over an "Oriental" star in a sport like tennis, which is dominated by Western nations.

Osaka is an American through and through culturally, but she always competes and represents Japan. Why doesn't she claim to be Hatian as well?? She's half Carribbean by blood. You don't think the poor tiny corrupt island nation wouldn't love to have a tennis star of their own, too??
