Let’s not sit here and pretend the kiss is the reason this movie is bombing. I think that it’s part of it, but there are several reasons, quite a few bigger than the kiss, and the others, some are Disney’s fault, some necessarily not.
The biggest is probably most people just didn’t want a Lightyear movie. Look no further than the trailers for the last two Pixar movies on the official Pixar YouTube channel. Turning Red has 45M views on its trailer, Lightyear has 19M. The interest in this movie was pretty small from the get go.
