I will be moving temporarily to Kansas City for 18 months. Give me the low down on where I should live and best places to hangout and visit while I am there. Office will be a little south of downtown near Leawood area.

I'd live in leawood, or OP if you can afford it. Lenexa is a bit cheaper, olathe is also nice if you want to get further in the suburbs.

Have been in the KC area for 3 year now. We really love it. Married or single? Kids?
Leawood is one of the best suburbs and has a lot of money there. Definitely a suburban/family vibe. Has some really nice shopping/dining areas. Not really a young crowd though.
I live in Prairie Village which is a little closer to downtown and we love it. Safe, clean, good parks, several good restaurant/shop areas we can walk to from our house. Definitely a family vibe.
Other good suburbs for families would be Overland Park, Mission, Westwood, Fairway.
If you are single I would look downtown, Crossroads, Plaza, West Plaza, Brookside. Close to the action, plenty within walking distance, lots of young professional types.
If I were single I'd probably go with a loft in Crossroads or at one of the Power and Light buildings, One Light & Two Light.
Enjoy KC. Feel free to ask any questions.

Single and no kids
I am going to try my best to enjoy it. How is traffic typically if I would stay downtown and have to commute back towards they Leawood office area

You’ll be reverse commuting so honestly shouldn’t be too terrible. Traffic in KC is fairly non existent. Can get just about anywhere in town in ~20 minutes.

Traffic in KC is non existent. We live in Leawood. Are you working for an engineering/construction company?

Would like to add....you may want to look at Old Overland Park area. A lot of new nice apartments, restaurants, bars etc.
