I’m not even sure the Pelicans would pull the trigger on him right now.

I would be as mad as when we traded out of Garland to take Hayes if he falls and we decide to trade back or skip over him.

I'm not as convinced he will translate like I was Garland, only becuase I havent seen any college level tape, but what is there is a guy with top 10 player in this league ceiling, at the most important position, and a position we will need as CJ ages. And you simply dont pass up someone with that type of upside when this may be the last time we ever pick this high(no guarantee Lakers or Bucks pick ever fall top 10, even if everyone is in the off-season optimism mode).

He would be our Jonathan Kuminga. Superstar upside but will need 2-3 seasons to develop...which we can offer.

Pels also have no real need to find an immediate contributor. Minutes would already be tough to come by even for the more "NBA ready" players expected to be at 8-14.

Most guys expected to be there at 8 have role playing starter ceiling at best. If one of the good starter or better ceiling guys fall to you, you have to take them unless your due diligence gives you reason to think that ceiling isn't realistic.

I think that you are taking the opposite lesson from 2019 than I am. Sharpe is an athletic freak with incredible potential, who also has somewhat limited tape, off-the-court concerns, and questions about his work ethic.

That's exactly what we took in Jaxson Hayes. I saw multiple analytics stuff at the time that had Jaxson rated higher than Garland.

But it turns out that work ethic matters rather a lot.

I am not saying that we should pass on Sharpe, but if our front office passes on him because of concerns about his work ethic, I will be absolutely fine with that.
