Its very simple and I'm definitely not an electrician.
Just shut the main breaker off before you start.
I installed mine yesterday,
Reliance 30 amp Power inlet box $60
Romex 10/3 wire with ground $60
30 amp double pole breaker $10
20' 30 amp cord $50
Other odds/ends $30

I don’t see it mentioned here ever but with these backfeed setups are y’all un-bonding the neutral and ground on the generator to make it a floating neutral?
From what I’ve read this is the “right” way to do it but I doubt most people bother let-alone know what that means.
