covid may have been the flimsy excuse but let's call a spade a spade. It was a free pass to save his body for a year and not have to compete so he could just coast til draft time.

So it’s hard to say a team “collapsed” from 19 to 20, when the entire world went stupid.

so why didn't many more teams in CFB see their win totals drop in half from one year to the next? Bama and UGA didn't seem to be too affected by it.

Yeah he def used Covid as an excuse. But fact of the matter is, there is no way in hell he would’ve opted out of an entire season without Covid. The Covid situation definitely enabled him and other players to opt out without much backlash or consequence. He was by far the best player in college football to opt out though.

The thread is about biggest collapse. I just don’t think it qualifies due to a unique variety of factors.

Lost a bunch of players and coaches and usually you need a real offseason to adjust to new personnel, but due to Covid, there was no real offseason.

Bama and Georgia just recruit better. They always far and away have the best recruiting classes. The chasm between 1-2 and say 8-10 is larger than you think. Those 2 teams have just been loaded as of late. And that’s LSU’s direct competition. It’s not like they can afford to take a step back or two and still be okay bc they play a weak schedule like Clemson or other good teams in inferior conferences.
