After some lessons get him signed up for a US Kids tourney. Set modest goals. My sons goal in his forst tourney was to avoid having to pick up, which is a 10 on a hole. He made a couple 9's but that was a successful round that made him want to come back.
Get started early. They have age groups for 6 and under. By the time they are 10 or 11, they are all pretty good so hacking around out there may be harder on the kid.

I agree - USKids is the best entry point IMHO - if they progress they very well grow out of the local tours by 11-13 but there are multiple options at that point. USKids is the best introductory golf tour out there - and combined with watching the short game (both the move and 1 season of the tv show) make getting to the worlds a real quest that is attainable for many…
