I’ve posted a lot about this - but since you asked - 1st grade is very young. I found the first time my girls played in the world championships- I’d say 85% of the top girls took Tae Kwan Do or some sort of similar discipline- for me it was a happy accident my kids did - but to earn the belts you aren’t fighting karate kid style - you have to learn to master forms - or specific body movements - which is a great way to learn the discipline to properly execute a good swing and rotation…

I’ve put my other suggestions on here such as breaking water balloons with golf clubs - and personally I’d steer as far away from group lessons - I think that ends more young golfers than it starts - if he’s serious - you need individual lessons with a good teacher - even just 30 minutes at a time or whatever …
