Asian Art, LSU 2006. It was a Monday night class.

Professor was this white woman in her late 40s or early 50s.

Every class was the exact same thing. She would talk about how China was the greatest country in the world. She made the claim that Egyptians stole the design of the pyramids from China. That China had invented the circle (seriously, she really did claim that, China invented circles).

After every exam the following class would be students arguing with her over grades. She would give the usual "the textbook isn't right" and even tried to claim that we students misinterpreted what she had said during a class, so that is why we were wrong.

I ended with a C in the class and I felt like one of the lucky ones.

I had a lot of interesting professors in Massachusetts. Stereotypical left wing nuts. I just bs my way through every class. I failed Anthropology though because I couldn't keep my mouth shut for long enough and shouted at the professor's friend (a Native American) that if they had better border patrol that they would still own America.

I took Asian Art as a night class at LSU in 2008, I'm pretty sure I had the same woman, but I didn't think she was that bad on her grading; if I remember correctly, she said as long as you show up to every class you'll be fine, she had a final exam but I got an A so I'm pretty sure she just handed that out for perfect attendance. I wonder if her policies changed after complaints

Biggest thing I remember from that class is discussing Chinese communism, she started making excuses for the centrally planned systems by claiming when CCP officials convene, they really do have the best interests of their citizens at heart and any shortcomings in the system are from other factors. A student objected and called bullshite on her and started an argument and she could come up with no basis for her statement. The guy was obviously right but the students in the class got impatient with him, wanting to get on with the rest of the class so they could get out as early as possible.

I still had my folder from that class in my storage drive. This is what she wrote under Chinese modern art on her syllabus:

quote:

Using the venue of art we have been setting forth an important question in International Studies today: Will it be bombs or brushes? This is not an easy question to answer. China’s more pacifistic approach allowed troops from both Central Asian and Europe to invade not only China, but her neighbors. On the other hand it is not easy to see many loved ones blown to bits. It is a question for discussion.
